Phil Ivey | Team Full Tilt Player

Phil Ivey has been called different things, but he probably never imagined that one day he would become known as the “Tiger Woods of Poker.” Like fellow Team Full Tilt Player Jennifer Harman, Phil sticks out of a predominantly male, white gambling society. If Jennifer has proven beyond doubt that gender is no barrier to playing first-class poker, Phil Ivey has shown that African-Americans can excel in a game dominated by white American and European players.

This one of a kind player was born on February 1,1976 in Riverside, California. Not destined to be a Californian perhaps, Phil and his family moved to Roselle, New Jersey when he was only a few months old. There in the east coast, Phil would slowly develop his masterful playing skills at the table. When he grew up, the future champion landed a job at a telemarketing company in New Brunswick. There he would hone his poker abilities against his colleagues. It soon became apparent that Phil was in a class of his own. He began playing as a professional in Atlantic City, the gambling center of New Jersey.

What Phil Ivey has achieved in his young career is quite impressive. He won a grand total of 5 bracelets at the World Series of Poker even before he turned 30 years old. In the $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha, he bested the legendary Amarillo Slim for the $195,000 prize-- the first player ever to do so. In 2002, he earned first place in three categories: the $2,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, the $2,000 S.H.O.E. and the $1,500 Seven Card Stud. He again won a bracelet in 2005, this time in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha for the top prize of $635,603.

Phil also has a World Poker Tour title under his belt, but it took him eight tries at the final table before he succeeded. He is also part of the “The Corporation,” a team of professional players that wager against banker Andy Beal. His total career earnings amount to over $10 million dollars.

Aside from poker, Phil Ivey also enjoys playing golf and watching his favorite basketball teams, the Houston Rockets and LA Lakers. He lives with his wife in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Thanks to the Internet, you can now play with the best poker players in the world. It is one thing to practice in home games with your family, or at casino tables against amateur strangers like yourself. It is another thing to be able to play, chat and share knowledge and experiences with professionals. Team Full Tilt Player s regularly spend time at the Full Tilt Poker web site, not just raking money off the tables but also helping amateurs to improve their skills. Phil Ivey is one of these great players. The technologies of online poker give everyone the possibility to play with Phil and every other Team Full Tilt Player , namely such greats as Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Phil Gordon, Patrik Antonius, Mike Matusaw, Gus Hansen, Erik Seidel, Erich Lindgren, Andy Bloch, Allen Cunningham, John Juanda and the aforementioned Jennifer Harman.
