Two-Four Chip Blind Structure

When you play with a two-four blind structure, you need to learn to play a little tighter. Instead of adding an extra third bet to see the flop, you now find yourself doubling your small blind to see. This can make a big difference during a session.

The pot odds you are getting will adjust accordingly when you change from the two-three blind structure to the two-four structure.

Example:

Again, sitting in the small blind position, the big blind at $2, your small blind contribution is $1. You have a caller before you. It will cost you $1 so see the flop. The pot is at $6, offering you 6/1 odds. These odds are usually worth the call. Its an easy hand to throw away if you miss the flop but you might hit, giving you a deceptive hand.

Poker is more than just hitting on the flop, often many players are scared of limpers when a low flop appears, especially with low pairs. We will go into bluffing situations at a later date but this is just to illustrate that no matter what two hole cards you have, there is always a chance to hit a decent hand on the flop.

Using pot odds to determine your play is one of the key ingredients to limit holdem. The difference in the blinds structure will affect your given odds so always make a quick calculation before you decide to play or fold.

Two-three blind structure suits players who like to play stongly pre-flop. It favours the agressive style of player. If you are fairly new to the game, it may take a bit of time to work out what is more suited to your style of play but once you do, you will appreciate the subtle differences incorporated into the blind structures and be better equipt to capitalize on it.
